How to sync Audible listening position across devices

How to turn it on or refresh it

Start in the player for the audiobook that is out of sync.

1. Open the same audiobook in the Audible app. Confirm the phone or tablet is signed in with the Amazon account that owns or has access to the title. A shared household profile is a different account, so it can keep its own progress.
2. Open Player settings. Audible says to open the player, select the More menu at the top, then choose Player settings. Its Player settings are available in the Audible apps for iOS and Android.
3. Find Sync listening position. Confirm the setting is enabled. Audible specifically advises toggling the control off and then on again to refresh syncing when the position is not carrying over.
4. Let the device connect before testing the handoff. Start or pause the title, wait for the device to reach the network, then open the same title on the other device. Downloading a title helps with offline playback but does not itself send a new position until the device can connect again.

Audible says its Cloud Player can play Library titles in current Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or Edge browsers and can pick up where you left off across devices. This is a listening route rather than a separate sync setting; the title still needs to be available to that account.

Kindle distinction

Whispersync for Voice is an eligible-edition feature, not a synonym for app sync.

Audible uses Whispersync for Voice when a matching Kindle eBook and Audible audiobook are eligible to share a reading or listening position. Audible says the product details identify compatible titles, and that listeners need both formats for the Kindle-to-Audible handoff. If the usual app setting is enabled but you cannot move between an eBook and narration, verify the specific edition's Whispersync label rather than assuming matching book titles are enough.

Rule out the three common mismatches.

1. Account mismatch: Verify the same Amazon sign-in on each device. Do not confuse an Amazon Family sharing profile with the account that originally started the title.
2. Connection mismatch: A downloaded audiobook can continue playing offline, but the new position needs a connection before another device can receive it. Reconnect both devices, then give the app a moment to update.
3. Feature mismatch: Use ordinary Audible position sync for an audiobook across devices. Only use Whispersync expectations when the exact Kindle eBook and audiobook are marked eligible, and use Page Sync for a physical book.
