Editorial standard
How an audiobook earns a recommendation.
Our reviews evaluate four distinct dimensions. A famous book does not automatically make a great audiobook.
1. Narration
Clarity, character distinction, emotional range, consistency, and whether the performance adds to the text.
2. Story
Structure, ideas, characterization, and the strength of the underlying work.
3. Pacing
Whether the production holds attention across its runtime and how well it fits common listening situations.
4. Replay value
Whether the audiobook rewards another listen or works particularly well as a reference.
