How do you listen to Libby audiobooks on Alexa?

That distinction matters: the Echo supplies the speaker, while Libby still supplies the loan, title selection, and playback controls. A voice request cannot open or start the Libby audiobook for you.

Setup steps

Pair the mobile device, connect it, then begin the audiobook in Libby.

1. Put the phone or tablet in Bluetooth pairing mode. Keep Bluetooth enabled and have the device available beside the Echo.
2. Open the Alexa app and select the Echo. Amazon's pairing instructions direct users to Devices, the chosen device, Device Settings, then Bluetooth Devices and Pair A New Device.
3. Choose the phone or tablet and wait for the connection. If the device was paired before, turn Bluetooth on and ask Alexa to pair Bluetooth, or reconnect from the device's Bluetooth controls.
4. Open Libby and start the current loan. Libby's listening instructions say to go to Shelf, open Loans, choose Open Audiobook, and use Play.
5. Adjust narration speed, sleep timer, and bookmarks in Libby. Those are app-player choices, so use the mobile device rather than asking Alexa to manage the book.

“Alexa, play my Libby book” is not the supported route.

The practical split is simple: use voice to handle the Bluetooth connection when it helps, but use Libby to choose and start the audiobook. Libby explicitly says that audiobooks from the app cannot be played on an Echo using voice command. If you ask Alexa for a title, it may search a different supported service instead of resuming the library loan on your phone.

If audio will not play

Check Bluetooth first, then confirm the Libby loan and player.

• No sound from the Echo: check that the phone or tablet is connected to the intended Echo in its Bluetooth settings, then reconnect before restarting Libby playback.
• Alexa opens another service: stop that playback and start the title directly from Libby. The Echo cannot use an Alexa voice command to begin a Libby audiobook.
