Start the loan, then change only the control in front of you.
- Open the active audiobook loan. Libby's listening guide starts from Shelf, then Loans, then Open Audiobook. Begin playback so you know you are adjusting the intended title.
- Tap the playback-speed icon at the top of the player. This opens Libby's speed control for the audiobook you have open.
- Choose a preset or use Fine-tune. Libby documents both paths and a custom range from 0.6x to 3x. Select the pace you want rather than assuming a faster setting is universally easier to follow.
- Resume and reassess after a short passage. If dialogue, unfamiliar names, or a dense section becomes difficult to follow, reopen the same control and select a different setting. Speed is separate from the loan's availability, download state, and chapter position.

Its Apple CarPlay guidance, however, documents speed changes from 1x to 2x on the Now Playing screen. That difference is a reason to check the interface you plan to use instead of expecting every listening surface to match.

First confirm that a borrowed audiobook is open in Libby's player.
The playback-speed control belongs to the audiobook player. If you are looking at search results, a title detail page, or a different format, open the active loan first. Libby's listening overview gives the current Shelf, Loans, and Open Audiobook route. If a car display or another connected surface still differs, use the control presented there and consult the current device-specific guidance.
A pace change does not download a loan, extend its due date, or make a held title available. If your concern is connection loss, read how Libby offline listening works; if the borrowed title is near its due date, check whether your library offers a different loan period before you make a listening plan.

Can I make a Libby audiobook slower than normal?
Yes. Libby's current player guidance documents a Fine-tune range beginning at 0.6x, which is below normal 1x playback. The exact available control is shown in the player you are using.
Is changing speed the same as changing my place in the audiobook?
No. Speed changes the rate at which audio plays. Libby shows progress, current position, and remaining time in the player separately, so use those controls when you need to navigate rather than change pace.
