Can you use multiple library cards in Libby?

Libby's current card guidance says you need a library card for every library you want to borrow from, but you can add multiple libraries and multiple cards per library. That can give you more places to check for an audiobook, not one combined lending account. Each library decides its card eligibility, digital collection, loan periods, holds, and borrowing limits.

A second card can add a catalog, a card profile, or neither—depending on where it belongs.

Add a card from another library

Find the library first, then follow its card sign-in prompts.

1. Open Menu, then choose Add Library. Libby's current add-library instructions start from this menu.
2. Find the library by name, city, ZIP code, or map. Select the correct library to open its collection. Similar library names can represent different systems and different card rules.
3. Follow the card prompt at the top of the library screen. Use only a card you are authorized to use. If Libby cannot verify it, the library—not a generic app setting—can confirm the card number, PIN, status, or eligibility.
4. Search for the audiobook and inspect the edition. Before borrowing, check that the listing is actually an audiobook and compare the narrator, language, and availability label with the edition you want.

Adding a library is useful when you already qualify for its card. It is not a workaround for a library's membership policy. If the app offers a path to apply for a card, finish the library's own process and wait for its confirmation before counting on a new borrowing option.

Add another card at a saved library

Use Menu and Add Card when the library is already in Libby.

Libby's card-management guidance gives a separate path for this case: open Menu, tap the card by the saved library's name, choose Add Card, then follow the prompts. This avoids adding the same library twice when what you need is another valid card at that library.

When more than one card is saved for the same library, open Menu, then Cards, and tap the inactive card to make it active. Libby also says you can switch cards on a borrow or hold confirmation screen by tapping the card name. That is the time to verify the library card and the live loan summary before you complete the action.

Find the faster valid route

Compare availability across saved libraries instead of assuming every card has the same wait.

After you save more than one library, Libby says you can search for the title, tap its Available or Unavailable status, and see borrowing options from your saved libraries. Select a library in that list to borrow the audiobook or place a hold there. During a borrow or hold flow, you can also tap the library name on the confirmation screen to choose a different saved library.

Treat the exact title screen as the decision evidence. An audiobook that appears ready at one library may be unavailable at another; a title that does not appear in the first search may be discoverable through Libby's cross-library search option.
