This is not a claim that either service has every audiobook. Search the exact title you want before paying. A listener who needs one named audiobook to remain available may value a credit purchase differently from a listener whose priority is trying several catalog titles during a month.
Spotify's time limit
A faster playback speed does not stretch Spotify's included hours.
Spotify counts the time used at a title's normal speed. In its example, finishing a five-hour audiobook at 2x speed still reduces the allowance by five hours. Replaying a chapter also reduces the allowance again. That makes the normal running time—not the time you spend with headphones on—the useful number to compare with your remaining hours.
- Check eligibility first. Spotify lists Premium Individual and the managers of Premium Family or Duo plans as eligible for included audiobook listening time in the US. Premium Student does not include it.
- Check the title label. Spotify says titles in the subscriber catalog are marked Included in Premium. Do not assume that an audiobook listed on Spotify uses the monthly allowance or is available in every country.
- Check the normal runtime. The title's stated length determines the time Spotify counts, even when you listen faster.
- Watch the monthly reset. Spotify says unused included time does not carry forward. It offers add-ons and top-ups for eligible accounts, but their availability and expiry rules differ from the base allowance.

If a title appears in Spotify's subscriber catalog and its normal runtime fits your remaining monthly time, included access can be straightforward. Treat the allowance as expiring access, not a purchased audiobook.

Spotify Family and Duo do not give every member the included time.
Spotify says included audiobook time on its Family and Duo plans belongs to the plan manager. A manager may be able to buy Audiobooks+ for plan members or purchase top-ups, while a member can request those options. The specific offers, payment route, and country availability shown in the account control what is actually available. Spotify also says unused one-time top-ups are valid for 12 months from purchase, unlike the base monthly allocation.

Can I use Spotify audiobook listening time at 2x speed?
Yes, Spotify lets the listening interface control playback speed, but its support guidance says speed does not change how the included audiobook time is counted. A title uses its normal-speed duration from the allowance.
Do Spotify audiobook hours carry over?
No. Spotify says unused included audiobook listening time expires at the beginning of the next billing period. That is different from Spotify top-ups, which it says are valid for 12 months from purchase, subject to an eligible Premium subscription.
Do Audible credit purchases stay available after cancellation?
Audible says titles purchased with credits remain in your Library after cancellation. This does not apply to a title that was only included through the Audible Plus Catalog, which depends on active membership and continued catalog availability.
