Before switching

A current Premium subscriber cannot simply convert to Audiobooks Access mid-plan.

Spotify's Audiobooks Access guidance says that someone currently subscribed to Premium must cancel Premium and wait for the plan to end before buying Audiobooks Access. That makes the billing date a practical checkpoint: review it in the account before cancelling, rather than assuming a plan change will be immediate or preserve every current benefit.

1. Check your country and live offer. Spotify labels Audiobooks Access as US-only, and its catalog and access can vary by country.
2. Find the exact audiobook. Spotify says subscriber-catalog titles are labeled Included in your plan; an audiobook that can be unlocked separately is not necessarily part of that catalog.
3. Compare the normal runtime with your hours. Spotify says time is counted at normal speed, so playing a five-hour audiobook at 2x still uses five hours.
4. Check the next billing date. Unused included time expires at the next billing period; it does not roll into the following month.

Listening-hour rules

Faster playback does not make the included hours last longer.

Spotify counts each audiobook playback at the title's normal speed. Its example says that a five-hour title played at 2x reduces the allowance by five hours, even when it takes only two and a half hours of real time. Replaying a chapter or a whole title also reduces the remaining allowance. If listening time runs out, Spotify says eligible accounts may have options to purchase additional listening time, but the available add-ons, top-ups, and billing conditions are account-specific.

For eligible Premium plans, Spotify says one-time top-ups are valid for 12 months from purchase, while included plan hours reset monthly. Top-ups still require an eligible Premium plan to use them, so they are not an Audiobooks Access option; check the cancellation and expiry details before buying extra time for a future listen.

Family and Duo

Included Premium audiobook time belongs to the plan manager.

On Premium Family and Duo, Spotify says the plan manager—not every plan member—gets the included subscriber-catalog audiobook time. The manager can purchase recurring Audiobooks+ access or one-time top-ups for plan members where available, while members can request those options. That is a separate purchase path, not a transfer of the manager's included time.
