- Check the title's format before you borrow. A library may offer the ebook, audiobook, both, or neither. The Kindle option belongs to the ebook flow, so it is not evidence that an audiobook edition is included.
- Use Libby on a supported device for the audiobook. Libby's current compatibility list names iOS and Android devices, newer Fire tablets, and browser use on Windows, Mac, and Chromebook computers.
- Open the active loan from Shelf. Libby's listening route is Shelf, Loans, then Open Audiobook. Verify that the loan is still active before troubleshooting playback.
- Download before you leave Wi-Fi when that suits your plan. Libby says mobile-app loans download for offline use by default on Wi-Fi. Confirm the download has completed on the device you intend to carry.
If you only have a Kindle e-reader with you, the practical choice is to read an eligible Libby ebook there or wait to listen until you have access to a supported Libby device. Do not return or replace the loan merely because the Kindle option is absent; first check whether you borrowed the audiobook or the ebook format.
If Kindle audio is the requirement
Treat library-loan listening and Kindle-compatible Audible listening as separate routes.
The limitation here is about Libby's Kindle delivery, not a general claim that no Kindle e-reader can play any audiobook service.
