Gift membership guide

Can you gift an Audible membership?

Yes. Audible currently offers 1-, 3-, 6-, and 12-month gift memberships on Audible.com and mobile web. Choose a membership gift when the recipient should select their own audiobooks; choose a single-title gift when you already know the exact edition they want.

Quick answer

Gift a fixed membership term in a browser; it does not start an automatic renewal.

Audible says membership gifts are purchased through its Gift Center on Audible.com or mobile web, not in the Audible app. Select the gift term, enter the delivery details, choose a card, and complete checkout. A recipient who redeems the gift and is not already a member receives the membership benefits for the gift term; Audible says they are not charged when that term ends.

Choose the access type

A membership gives the recipient choice; a title gift gives them one known audiobook.

Let them choose

Gift a membership

Audible currently lists 1-, 3-, 6-, and 12-month gift terms. This route fits when the recipient should choose titles with the benefits tied to the gift plan, rather than receive a title selected by someone else.

Give one exact edition

Gift an audiobook

A title gift is for a specific audiobook and does not require the recipient to have a membership. It is the more direct option when you know the narrator or edition they want to receive.

A gift membership is not a transfer of your own account, and it is not the same as giving a book you previously bought. For the one-title route, see our Audible audiobook gift guide. If the goal is to share an eligible purchase within a household, see how Audible Family Library sharing works.

Purchase steps

Use the Gift Center and review the recipient details before payment.

  1. Open Audible's Gift Center in a browser. Audible says membership gifts can be sent from Audible.com or mobile web; the purchase option is not available in the Audible app.
  2. Select the membership length. Audible currently lists 1-, 3-, 6-, and 12-month options. Check the term and displayed price at checkout rather than relying on a past offer.
  3. Enter the gift details and choose a card. Audible's flow asks for gift information, then a card selection, before it directs the purchaser to sign in with an Amazon account if necessary.
  4. Complete the purchase and retain the confirmation. The recipient can redeem through the gift email or by entering the claim code in the Gift Center. Claim codes are case-sensitive, according to Audible's redemption guidance.

If they already subscribe

An active member receives the associated credits, not an extension of the current plan.

Audible says a recipient with an active membership receives all of the credits associated with the redeemed gift membership at once. The gift does not replace or extend their existing membership, so a paid member continues to be charged on their usual billing date. This makes the recipient's membership status an important check before you choose between a membership gift and a specific audiobook.

Audible's current terms distinguish the claim code from the credits after redemption: gift membership claim codes do not expire, while credits issued through a redeemed gift membership expire 12 months after issuance. Check the account's current credit dates after redemption, especially if the recipient already has unused credits. For the general rule on regular plan credits, see our Audible credit-expiry guide.

After redemption

The recipient needs an Amazon account, and the gift term stops without a new charge.

Audible's terms say a recipient needs an Amazon.com account, or must create one, to begin a gift membership on Audible.com. Its Help Center says the recipient can redeem from the email or use the claim code through the Gift Center. Gift memberships cannot be transferred, resold for value, or redeemed for cash under Audible's current terms.

When the gift term ends, Audible says the recipient is not automatically charged for a membership plan. They can enroll in a plan later from Account Details if they decide to continue. Membership benefits, availability, eligibility, prices, and terms are controlled by Audible and can change, so confirm the recipient's marketplace and the current checkout details before buying.

Common questions

The practical details to confirm before you send it.

Can I buy an Audible gift membership in the app?

No. Audible says membership gifting is available through Audible.com or mobile web, not in the Audible app. Start in a browser so you can use the Gift Center purchase flow.

What plan does an Audible gift membership use?

Audible's terms describe gift memberships for its Premium Plus Monthly Plan. The Gift Center currently presents fixed 1-, 3-, 6-, and 12-month options; confirm the benefit details shown for the marketplace and term you are purchasing.

Can an existing Audible member redeem a gift membership?

Yes. Audible says an existing member gets the corresponding credits at once rather than a new or extended gift plan. Their existing paid membership continues on its ordinary billing schedule.
