Can you gift an Audible book?

Quick answer

Gift a new title from the Gift Center, not a book already in your Library.

Audible says title gifts are sent through its Gift Center on Audible.com or mobile web; the Audible app does not offer this purchase flow. Search for the audiobook, choose Give as a gift, select email or a printable card, and complete the purchase. A recipient can redeem the gift with an Amazon account or create one during redemption. Audible says they do not need an Audible membership to receive and enjoy the gifted title.

Choose the right gift

A single audiobook and a membership solve different problems.

How to send a title

Use a browser and check the delivery choice before paying.

1. Open Audible's Gift Center in a browser. Audible says title gifting works on Audible.com and mobile web, not in the Audible app.
2. Search for the intended audiobook. Confirm the title and edition before choosing Give as a gift; a gift purchase is for a new copy, not a free transfer of a title you previously bought.
3. Choose email or printable card. Enter the recipient and message details, then review them before continuing. Audible says a printable-card purchase comes with printing and folding instructions after the purchase succeeds.
4. Choose an eligible payment option. Audible says title gifts can be bought with a credit card whether or not you have a membership, or with an eligible Audible credit. Coupons cannot be applied to gift purchases.
5. Keep the confirmation and check Gift History. Audible says the purchaser receives an email confirmation. From Account details on the desktop site, Gift History shows the gift and whether it has been claimed.

Credit limits

You can use a credit for a title gift, but not every credit qualifies.

Audible says a sender may use eligible credits to buy gift books, but cannot gift credits themselves. Its gift guidance excludes credits from a book return, promotional or bonus credits that were not purchased, and credits received as part of a gift membership. If the checkout page does not offer a credit, use the available payment option rather than assuming every credit balance can fund a gift.

After you send it

The recipient redeems from the email or a claim code.

Audible says a recipient can select Redeem your gift from the gift email or enter the claim code through the Gift Center, then sign in with an Amazon account or create one. A new recipient may be asked to add a billing address so Audible can confirm the title is available in their location. If the recipient already owns the gifted title, Audible says the purchaser receives a credit when the gift was bought with a credit, or a refund to the original card when it was bought with a card.

Before a gift is redeemed, Audible says the purchaser may request a refund within one year of purchase; the original payment method is refunded. Gift History can show whether a gift has been claimed, and an unclaimed printable code can be reprinted. These policies can change, so use the current help page and your account details before acting.

Does the recipient need an Audible membership?

No. Audible says a recipient does not need a membership to receive and enjoy a gifted audiobook. They do need to sign in with an Amazon account or create one to redeem it.

Can I gift an audiobook I already purchased?

No. Audible says previously purchased audiobooks cannot be gifted for free. Send a new title gift through the Gift Center, or use Amazon Family for eligible household sharing of an owned purchase.

What if the gift email or claim code is lost?

Audible directs purchasers to Gift History on the desktop site for gift records. It says an unclaimed printable code can be reprinted, and its support team can email a lost gift claim code to the purchaser.
