How do you change your Audible payment method?

Audible-billed membership

Add or update the card, then confirm which one is default.

1. Open Account details and Payment. Audible's stated route starts from your username in the top navigation, then Account details, then Payment.
2. Add a new card if the card number changes. Audible says you can use Add a card to enter a new credit-card payment method. It says a card-number change requires removing the old card and adding it again rather than editing that number in place.
3. Edit only the fields the screen allows. Select Edit beside a stored card, update the open fields, and save. The exact fields and eligible payment types shown can vary by account and marketplace.
4. Choose the intended default card. Audible says to select the card in the Default column. Verify the displayed card and next bill before leaving the page.

Removing an old card

Add a replacement first; do not remove the only usable billing card.

Audible says you cannot delete a credit card from its website without another card on file. If the old card is currently used for the membership, it says to select or add a different default card before deleting the old one. Audible also says deleting a card from Audible deletes it from the linked Amazon account, so consider whether that card is used for other Amazon purchases before you confirm removal.

That is why the safer sequence is add or select the replacement, verify the default marker, then remove the old card only if you want it gone from the shared Audible and Amazon payment list. Changing a default selection and deleting a payment method are separate actions.

Why an old card can still matter

A default card and a backup-payment setting are not the same control.

Audible says an eligible card in your Amazon account may be used as a backup when the default card cannot be charged. Its backup-payment instructions live in Amazon's Your Payments settings and apply to Audible and other Amazon products and services. So, if you are replacing a card after a decline, review the default selection and the backup-payment setting instead of assuming one change governs every future charge.

Google similarly warns that a declined or underfunded subscription payment may cancel the subscription. For a Google Play-billed Audible membership, use the subscription's current payment controls and complete the on-screen update before the next renewal; Google determines which payment methods are available there.
